Mayor Bloomberg is supposedly one of the biggest "green" advocates, and even wanted to institute those traffic fines that England has. Furthermore, he is famous for appearing like a "regular New Yorker" who uses public transportation.

The NY Times reported that although Bloomberg does ride the subway to and from City Hall, he's driven from his home to an express subway statin by a pair of Chevrolet Suburbans. Talk about wasting gas! And, there's a regular subway station about a block away from his home.

That SUV is known to be one of the worst vehicles for pollution. Bloomberg's rep said that they use cleaner-burning E85 ethanol gas whenever possible but I don't think that cuts it.
