Jewish Charter school in Florida 1 Year, 2 Months ago
|
|
|
Word about the new Jewish Charter school in Florida is spreading, causing a variety of emotions in people. Should we fight to create such a school in NY? If they have one in Florida, they should have one here. Furthermore, if Arabic chater schools are under consideration, what about Jewish ones?
On the other hand, is it what we really want? The school in Florida is taking away some students from yeshiva, and doesn't teach anything at all about religion or Judaism. Students going there won't have any knowledge or background on their history. Then again, perhaps these students wouldn't have been going to a yeshiva anyway and would have ended up in public school, in which case the charter school is a big plus.

You know, I read about the charter school, and I also had mixed opinions about it. Is it better to go to a charter school than a public school? Yes. But if the schools are taking kids away from Yeshivas, then it could be a problem. I fear that our kids will lack the religious education they need in the confines of a charter school, and we should keep that in mind if one does open up in New York or New Jersey.

Families have been suffering far too long by being doubly taxed to pay for both public school and yeshiva tuition.
Now is a most opportune time to push for equitable funding.
Charter school is first option. During the school hours in addition to secular studies they can study Hebrew language, Jewish history and customs. After shcool program (after 3pm) they can study jewish religion.
Lets go for it!

I have been reading about the charter school in fla and the info says thta students study hebrew language and jewish history for an hour each daily. the director says that none of the students at the school were ever registered in a yeshiva. 95%of the students are jewish.
from 230 to 600 the jcc teaches Torah for $130 a month.this program is optional

I live in Fl. We have some very big problems here in the "Jewish" schools. We have not had a Takana so every Jewish guy who goes with a Goya finds an Orthodox Rabbi to baptist her Jewish. The only stipulation is that they "put the children in Jewish school".
The "Jewish" schools in FL are FULL of Gentile children. When there is tuition aid to distribute, it goes to the Gentile children because the Rabbis here say that the Jewish children will be Jews with or without a Jewish education, but the Gentile children will not be Jews unless they attend a yeshiva.
In So. Fla, the Charter School is the ONLY way that the majority of Jewish children will get any sort of Hebrew education at all. And it is not much. The only advantage is that the Jewish kids are with mostly Jewish kids and they are not ostracized or harassed for keeping kosher etc.
I homeschool my kids because I don't live in Hollywood and also don't have an extra 60k for tuition after all the bills are paid.
At least in Brooklyn/Deal there is a Takana, if anyone wants to see what happens to a Jewish community without it, take a trip to Fl. So far, Safra is the ONLY place where one can see the fast becoming endangered species, the Jewish wife and mother!!
