Efi Fixler and Dr. Andreas Tzakis, M.D., PhD, Professor of Surgery and Director of Miami Transplant Unit Our Sages teach us that the world continues to stand because of three deeds: learning Torah, working and doing acts of kindness. A huge act of kindness was done recently in Florida when Gesher Tzedaka’s Hospitality Suite was dedicated at Jackson Towers. Hospital administrators, department heads, surgeons, doctors, social service agencies, community leaders, friends and family came to share in this very special occasion. Rabbi Shuky Berman of Refuah Resources, flew in from New York for the occasion and was given the honor of adorning the mezuzah. Mr. Shai Gold graciously thanked the supporters and attendees. As this was going on, one very special person stood humbly in the crowd, the founder of Gesher Tzedaka, Mr. Efi Fixler.

The hospitality suite Efi Fixler is a local transportation owner (of Gold Coach Tours) and prides himself in producing quality products and excellent customer service. He has been instrumental in hurricane relief efforts in Florida and is no stranger to working under difficult conditions. A regular visitor of the sick, Efi saw a great demand for hospitality suites in hospitals. As a former New Yorker, Efi was accustomed to community organizations offering a place for families, whose loved ones were undergoing treatment, to rest—especially on the Sabbath, when they cannot travel. The availability of kosher fresh food and guidance of local volunteers and rabbis are customary amenities in New York. Unfortunately, this was not the case in any South Florida Hospital. So, Efi founded Gesher Tzedaka-Bridge of Charity.
The hospitality suite Jackson Memorial Hospital graciously responded to the request of Gesher Tzedaka to open a hospitality suite on their premises. With G-d's help, this will be the first of many to open in hospitals throughout South Florida. The suite services both Jackson Memorial and University of Miami Hospital. The room is ready and complete with a kitchen area with a fully stock refrigerator, reclining couches, a bookshelf with prayer books for services and for study and other reading materials, bathrooms, a telephone and computer services with Internet access.
Gesher Tzedaka's philosophy is one of caring, support, encouragement and guidance. “We are just here to help others in need. It is the little things that matter. To ease just a minute of pain or anguish for a family member watching their loved ones suffer is worth a lifetime of good deeds,” says Efi Fixler and that is how he lives his life. May G-d give him the strength to continue his noble work.
