Young Magen David (YMD) of Deal hosted its annual basketball tournaments on a hot Sunday afternoon in August. The boys played at the home of Kim and Charlie Chera, while the girls played right next door at Nina and Sam Cohen's house. Both driveways filled with bikes, there were people in and out all day.

Eli Arje, Andy Mizrahi and Ceasar Salama organized the 6th annual boys' tournament this summer and Rozan Mizrahi, Lynda Saadia, Marie Saadia and Adela Tebele handled the girls' for its third consecutive year. A special thank you goes out to YMD President Daniel Mizrahi and Joey "Stick" Mizrahi for their efforts.
With 15 girls' teams, the girls finished their tournament first. The red and white teams were left to battle it out, ending with the white team reigning as victors. Champions Denise Araman, Margarette Chabot, Beatrice Esses and Yvette Wolfe were tough but courteous throughout their game against Vicki Ades, Lauren Harari, Annie Lubin and Marjorie Sasson, who came in second.

Ranking first of 23 teams, boys' winners included MVP Michael Edery, Danny Kaplan, Johnny Kaplan and Joey Shemtob. Runners-up consisted of Jack Anzarouth, Sammy “Foot” Anzaroot, Irving Betesh and Isaac Saada.
“This year's YMD tournament was a big success and it helped raise money for Young Magen David, the main youth group in Deal,” said YMD President Daniel Mizrahi. “We are a religious and social organization that caters to the youth of our community. Don't forget to sign up for YMD Seminar next spring.”
With over 100 community young adults in attendance, YMD Seminar is one of YMD's main events of the year. YMD organizes other events and activities as well, like football with dinner on Monday nights or “Gotcha.” Don’t hesitate to email
