Beginning Shabbat Early

As we roll into summer, the days are getting longer. With daylight savings time, sunset is really late. For most families, especially those with little children, it is really inconvenient to begin the Friday night meal at 9:00 or 9:30. So, many people take advantage of the halakha that permits us to begin Shabbat on Friday afternoon after pelag haminha.

Energy Efficient Home Improvements

Sustainable home improvements not only help reduce utility costs and boost owner satisfaction with their homes, they also make a house more appealing to potential buyers. In fact, buyers are willing to pay up to 10% more for new homes certified green. Return on investment for certain types of green improvements—such as replacing older, less efficient doors and windows—tends to be high, meaning sellers recoup much of the initial cost of the improvement when they sell the home.

Israeli Car Runs On Battery and Water

In this day and age everyone is looking for more, for something better, something different. Everyone wants to get the most miles possible for a gallon of gas. With prices rising and fossil fuels becoming less and less accessible, society is on the hunt for an alternative. The competitiveness between companies to come up with the substitute is cut throat. The world is ready for the next best thing and an Israeli company is working to bring us just that.

“It’s good to do a walk-around of your property, especially after a storm,” said Curtis S. Niles, president of the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI). Winter is tough on roofs and chimneys. It can also take its toll on windows, walls, foundations, gutters and decks. Super storm Sandy wreaked havoc on so many homes. It’s possible that it did some damage that you haven’t noticed.

Probate, Validating Your Last Will and Testament

Probate is the legal process that validates your last will and testament (Will) and oversees the transfer of assets from your estate to your beneficiaries after your death.  Probate entails a court-supervised process of locating and determining the value of the assets owned in the individual name of a deceased person (referred to as a “decedent”), paying the decedent’s final bills and/or estate taxes (if any), and then distributing what’s left to his or her heirs.
